The King of Gemstones
Ruby is the red variety of corundum — the same mineral that gives us sapphire — and the second hardest natural gemstone on earth, surpassed only by diamond. Its legendary color comes from traces of chromium deep within the crystal, producing hues that range from vivid pigeon-blood red to rich purplish crimson. No synthetic can match the depth and warmth of a natural ruby.
For centuries, the finest rubies have come from the Mogok Valley in Myanmar, where exceptional stones have been mined since at least the sixth century. Today, natural rubies of gem quality are also found in Sri Lanka, Mozambique, Madagascar, and Vietnam — but a truly fine ruby remains one of the rarest and most valuable gemstones in the world, often exceeding diamond in per-carat price.
At Hemmingmoore's, every ruby we offer is natural and genuine — never synthetic, never glass-filled, never misrepresented. We carry loose natural rubies — cut, cabochon, and rough — alongside select original ruby jewelry. If you're looking for the real thing, you've found the right place.
